If Empire of the Vampire was half magic school and half apocalyptic survival story, Empire of the Damned is more of a traditional fantasy, focusing mainly on the upcoming battle between ancient vampires and literally everyone else. Finally reaching the Silversaints' monastery, Gabriel discovers the Silversaints intend to sacrifice Dior to end Daysdeath. From the Sunday Times bestselling and award-winning author of the Nevernight Chronicle, comes this masterful new series. He's still getting a ton of love, but if you are a huge fan of EotV's female characters, this book will delight you. Imprisoned by the very monsters he vowed to destroy, the last silversaint is forced to tell his story. Plus, I ended up loving reading Gabriel’s brotherhood with Aaron and Baptiste, too, and trust me, from the first half of the book, this was a mission impossible. We welcome respectful dialogue related to speculative fiction in literature, games, film, and the wider world. From New York Times bestselling author of the Nevernight Chronicle, Jay Kristoff, comes the most-anticipated fantasy sequel of the year.

And then, he decided to use three words for every situation and sentence, no matter how random and awkward they’re placed. Ever since, vampires have waged war against humanity building their eternal empire even as they tear down our own.Despite how much I loved reading the last 300 pages of Empire of the Vampire, I cannot give this book a full 5 stars rating due to the issues I had with the first half of the novel.

I have always been a fan of vampires in the fantasy genre, and although I am glad many people loved Twilight, I have to say that I am slightly saddened by how it changed the way vampires are portrayed and assessed in the masses. I also didn’t like the way Kristoff had been speaking to others online, and decided that promotion wouldn’t be appropriate, despite being vocal about The Nevernight Chronicles in the past.

The language, too, though I could have done without the “thee’s” and “thou’s” used by the elder vamps; it felt artificial at times, particularly in contrast to the modern language, which uses many French words.
