About this deal

The flavour is delicate, smooth and cream-laden, with oak spice and sweet vanilla working in harmony.

But, having had to deal with jetlag and having spent a huge portion of the day at the Capilano Bridge, I didn’t think to ask. It’s a peaty twist on a Manhattan created by Shaun Layton when he was still at L’Abattoir (I’m told he now works at Como Taperia in Vancouver). When tasting you’ll enjoy the spice of the cloves alongside aromatic liquorice and a little fruity warmth. It is a rich, fruity Canadian whisky with plenty of winter spice flavours, crafted using 100% rye grains to showcase the true complexities of rye whisky from Canada. The team at Courvoisier use their experience to ensure their cognacs are nurtured to deliver exceptional and complex flavour profiles of unerring quality. With a heavy cooking spice that reminds me of family dinners of my youth, with a following brown sugar and vanilla, and ending with a pepper spice and slight tannin dryness. Lot 40 Rye is a legendary Canadian rye whisky that is produced in a single copper pot still, this is a characterful, robust, smoky whisky with a smooth finish. It’s undergone a twofold aging process: first in mildly-charred new American oak barrels, and then in heavily charred ones.

The only thing I would like more of is a citrus orange peel note, which is there, I just would like more of it. I was excited about this trip because I knew the food there was good, largely because it’s a part of North America where the population is mostly Asian. Hennessy XO was created by Maurice Hennessy himself 1870 and was initially reserved for the maker and his friends only, a mark of its excellence. Harnessing the singular qualities of rye, and accentuating it by aging in new American oak, this whisky has great depth and positively shines in cocktails.

It comes from the term “rye-flavoured” whisky which is why we Canadians throw the term rye around quite loosely when describing the typical Canadian style of rye-flavoured blended whisky. All products are securely packaged in Air-Shock bottle bags or excessive amount of bubble wrap for additional protection. This would be what I’d consider my first real trip to Canada, as I’ve previously been to Victoria for only a few hours about a decade ago. Find that place and you’ve found your way to Lot 40 – where we’ve distilled generations of knowledge, passion and hard work into the ultimate expression of Canadian Rye Whisky.

Rising to prominence during prohibition many classic cocktails simplyaren’t complete without a shot of Angostura Orange. Then some years later they changed the formulation (you can tell by the green on the label) and it was nowhere near as good, sadly.I guess the big boys really know how to take the fun (flavor) out of their products, even if they’re marketed as a small batch. I’m sure you know this already but the term “rye” in Canadian whisky is more of a colloquialism and doesn’t refer to any specific requirements. In the unlikely event that you're not happy with your purchase, for whatever reason, then please do get in touch so that we can make amends. The quality of our packaging ensures the wine arrives safe and sound, it is full compostable or recyclable.
