About this deal

This is why it always makes sense to use experts for loft boarding, as you get professional work done that accounts for the industry standards and best practices that you might otherwise be unaware of. It is recommended that the screws are loaded into the base of the Loft Legs before taking them into the loft (movie link here). Only because the 600mm would of given me a much smaller floor area due to layout of the 100 year old loft. I’ve bought several boxes of these now and they are great, so easy to fit, and super strong, really impressed!

I didn't think they would provide the support they actually do and I'm very pleased with the results. I get the impression the system might be a bit more expensive than the single plastic feet and boards. In the past I've purchased loft zone flooring and the metal loft shelf, however for this particular requirement I wanted something more cost effective than the metal shelves as it's overkill for this part of our loft. Overall it was easy to do, supports, rails and then add insulation between and this was easy as it was already in 3 sections. We went into full details in a previous post about loft insulation, but in short: squashing it down can reduce its effectiveness by up to 50%, which translates into significant losses for you in terms of heating bills and wasted energy. I have fitted them, tried pre drilling and not bothering to, honestly it’s 6 of 1 half a dozen of the other to pre-drill or not. Low Energy Supermarket accepts no responsibility for any electrical item purchased being installed and any item is fitted at owners risk.

This amount includes seller specified domestic postage charges as well as applicable international postage, dispatch, and other fees. The Loftleg is a unique, design protected solution to avoid insulation compression when using your loft for storage. The lights were also fitted by an electrician before I started the work as without decent light it would have been a much harder job.Fitting was straightforward although irregular beam spacing meant some fettling of support positioning. It took a little while to lay the first few boards but after I got the hang of it I was able to lay a board every 10minutes and completed a large section of the loft within the day. The weather hasn’t helped with temperatures in the loft being above 30 degrees so it took longer than expected and I completed the job over a few weekends. It took a bit of figuring out at first but once I got the first run of boards in and was used to the system it all became really quick. However, I think the way it all fits together with the very strong triangular plastic legs and the metal cross pieces is very strong and also probably a lot easier to fit once you get going as the cross pieces allow flexibility for where you place the feet on the joists.

Other option would be to use 6x2’s or similar to get enough height for the insulation and fix the boards on to that? Blocked vents or insufficiently ventilated lofts can develop issues further down the line so its best to make sure this is checked and remedied before untaking any work in the loft. New: A brand-new, unused, unopened and undamaged item in original retail packaging (where packaging .

Also used a 375mm shelving kit and put a couple of spare loft boards on them to get a bit more storage space. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. My other 2 shelves due up once i've sorted out our other loft and made space for me to put these up, happy knowing it will be just another ten mins. The joists were awkwardly spaced and some of them a bit wonky, but the product is so cleverly designed that I got round the "period features" without much trouble.

Not quite as simple to fit in an older house with uneven rafters, but it was possible with some work-arounds. A screw driven through the chipboard will self-tap into the top platform of the Loft Leg securely holding the board in place (movie link). In the end I used about 1,400 screws and 150 loft boards, then I bought some plastic trim to go around the edge of the opening to tidy it up.All in all a very positive experience from this seller who I have now used twice and will be recommending to others. So when you try and board directly onto these joists, you’re going to end up squashing the insulation down, which in turn means your insulation won’t pass a building control inspection. I am a competent DIYer and found the system easy to install and am very pleased the the final results. My property is almost 100yrs old and consequently there is some un-evenness and twisting of the joists and some irregular spacing.
