About this deal

and all of that unnecessary drama at the end was such bullshit i had to skim all of it because it was so stupid i don’t even know what was going on that was necessary to have that much melodrama it was so dumb. The only child of a film producer and his starlet wife, she’s grown up with wealth and privilege but not love or guidance.

If you have read other Penelope's books you will know by now she has a lot of darkness in her stories and here us where the beauty comes, she took real feelings even the most dark and ugly and turns them in something amazing. anyway, so tiernan isn’t very good with people and tALkiNg because of how her parents ignored her all the time when they were alive, so it’s a big deal for her to go live in the snowy cabin with her uncle and cousins (who thank god aren’t related by blood by the way), and can you guess what happens? problematic head-turn moments that made me flinch back in weirdness due to skin-crawling, uneasy and completely unhealthy traits. To say I’d been dyyying to get my hands on the audiobook and re-read this since January would be an understatement. While her POV certainly helps understand all the characters, it’s a little bit challenging to connect with one of the Van der Bergs considering his “limitation” and that he has the least interaction with Tiernan. One of it is in Kaleb’s POV, and I think reading it helps you get to know him more and shows you the side of him the book couldn’t but you’ve always wanted to see.

On the surface, she's a privileged woman, but underneath, she's a struggling, disconnected, broken, mess. Not only that but the lines of consent are really blurry and her love interests act like fucking bullies in this book. Her romantic development with Jake was so good and filled with tension from the start that it did not make sense AT ALL for her to be with the other two but, ya know, plot and all that.

However, I was very much team Jake and I was disappointed that as we got closer to the end, his perspective and his established relationship and chemistry with Tiernan just kind of disappeared?

You can say it’s misogynistic or whatever, but I have no problem with the Van der Bergs being possessive and protective of Tiernan. the reason might've been to hurt himself and withdraw but it was never really explained fully or even talked about.

He doesn't speak because of a 'childhood trauma', he does nothing but rape the heroine until she's convinced she likes it, and finally throws her birth control pills into the bin. at least one of them is going to r*pe or sexually assault her in any way shape or form, i mean, "It does get boring in the winter. he was so weird because he would try to be all authoritative and then break all of his rules but then yell at tiernan and punish her for stuff even when she’s 18 and not legally under his care anymore. Jake Van der Berg, her father’s stepbrother and her only living relative, assumes guardianship of Tiernan who is still two months shy of eighteen. With several years of book blogging under her belt, and a desire to work with the literary community in making it more diverse, she is always open to collaborations.

He again attacks her the next day by throwing food at her face, a drink falling in her lap, and then he flips over a table.
