With the introduction of HazMat and Hot Spot markers, the “Advance Fire” phase of each player turn now has the potential to create a genuine conflagration! I would definitely recommend the Experienced version for older kids (13+), adults, or experienced gamers. No matter how good you are as a group of players, bad luck with dice can make you lose this game very quickly, especially at the start. The Urban Structures expansion was initially released in 2011 in limited quantities as a Kickstarter exclusive for the base game, but in a second Kickstarter, funding was acquired to re-release the expansion commercially. You’ll also have to contend with Hazardous Materials, which are items that EXPLODE as soon as fire touches them.

My own opinion is that any game I can share with everyone from my youngest son to my father-in-law deserves high praise indeed. In the Family version, players assume the role of nondescript firefighters, while the experienced version introduces the specialists: captain, driver, rescue specialist paramedic, Hazmat or imaging technician, CAFS firefighter and generalist.There’s a lot of random luck (both good and bad) in this game, but performing actions efficiently requires thought and care on the part of the players. If the Chinese can influence them to the point that they will not exercise those claims, the Chinese position is strengthened. I hope this brief graphical example has given you an idea of how the game is played, as well as some sense of the decisions that you’ll be faced with when playing Flash Point: Fire Rescue. You’ll have some easier games here and there, but not so easy that you can sit on your bum and whistle. Additionally, the expansion set comes with physical AP Trackers and an explosion marker to ease gameplay.

The box has a couple little tears, but the more important things inside are all accounted for and in great condition! The game is driven by a card deck that captures developments ripped straight from today’s headlines, bolstered by cards with a context-setting reading of recent history, and a set of speculative cards capturing a diverse range of potential future events. I found the games could easily be dominated by a forceful player, and many seemed to be nothing more than playing appropriate cards when needed. So perhaps it could be something like, "once per turn, spend 1 AP to move any other character (including the Firefighter and people carrying victims/Hazmat) one space".Their primary objective is to save the lives of the victims, but how they go about doing that is up to them. For 2-4 players though, Flash Point: Fire Rescue is a wonderful game that really makes you feel like a hero!
