Batteries of any device must hold a charge at least 80% of their original capacity or it will be deemed "Faulty". In fact, the Moto E6 Play – just like the Moto E6 Plus – is arguably even less Motofied than the company’s other phones; even its Android One models. GB mass storage is common in this class, and we like the fact that it can be expanded via a separate microSD slot, so you don't have to sacrifice either of the two SIM slots for this. They’re plasticky, but the power button is textured and sized completely differently, which makes both units easy to feel out. What’s important is that this IPS LCD is reasonably clear and colour-accurate, and that everyday tasks look crisp enough.

Both make compromises when compared to pricier phones, but they’re pleasant to use and do a good job of papering over the cracks. Suffice it to say, the E6 Plus is 10% more expensive for a reason, and it’s definitely worth scraping together the extra tenner if you possibly can.

If you need extra space, you can always add up to 256 GB more using the dedicated microSD card slot. In those that are, visual settings default to their lowest levels, and even then frame rates can tank to slideshow-like levels depending on what’s happening onscreen. The Motorola Moto E6 Play smartphone is the sixth generation of Moto E phones, released in November, 2019.

I’d suggest that Motorola perhaps should have gone even smaller and avoided some of the compromises found elsewhere, but we’ll get to those in a bit.Since 2018 I have been Managing Editor for mobile device reviews, working alongside my colleague Daniel Schmidt. But given the huge number of superb budget handsets already available, there’s just no reason to pick up a Moto E6 Play. It is the essential source of information and ideas that make sense of a world in constant transformation. But this is a common issue even with more expensive phones, and the E6 Play remains usable regardless.
