I haven't particularly recommended a Walliams book before due to the questionable characters and themes but I would say this one is worth a read! Ruth sees a spacecraft crashing down to the ground not far from her home so she sneaks out to investigate, where she meets, her soon to be new Friend, Spaceboy. One night, as she is observing the stars, a flying saucer falls from the sky and crashes in Aunt Dorothy's wheat field. David Walliams, the mastermind behind numerous beloved children's books, takes young readers on an intergalactic journey with his latest masterpiece, "Spaceboy.I liked Yuri and Ruth and feel like this book has potential for sequels of adventures and even prequels of Spaceboy and Ruth's lives prior to them meeting. Still, the story did have heart and my son enjoyed my dramatic reading even if it was all a bit tiresome for me. Not only did Adam Stower’s illustrations perfectly complimented the story they helped to elevate this book to a whole new level.We meet Ruth, a twelve-year old orphan who was sent to live on an ostrich farm with her terrible, crocodile-looking Aunt Dorothy who loathes her and makes her life miserable.

Accompanied by doodles and aiding visuals this book will help you visualise all of its gritty details and add more clarity to the narrative. The description of the president of the United States is particularly entertaining, anachronistic as it may be. Stuck on a remote farm with her awful aunt, twelve-year-old orphan Ruth spends every night gazing at the stars, dreaming of adventure.At times I felt like I was reading Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, but Walliams definitely has his own signature on his work and Dahl, while clearly a strong influence, is not channelled. i love your characters your my favourite author i have read gangster granny, billionare boy, the midnight gang , bad dad, and demon dentist. The different fonts and sizes and sound effects are such a pain to read aloud and let's be honest are little more than padding. His tenth novel, BAD DAD, was an immediate number one, following the triumph of THE MIDNIGHT GANG, the biggest-selling children’s book of 2016.
