About this deal

He is summoned to the scene of a gruesome murder: the body of Edward Gunn, a convicted murderer, is found at his home. It is the seventh book in the Harry Bosch series and the second book in the series featuring Terry McCaleb.

The first person singular present indicative; a prolonged form of a primary and defective verb; I exist.

Lucke has urged that μᾶλλον here might mean magis, not potius, and that the Lord admits a certain amount of love for the light, though less than that for the darkness; but numerous passages of similar construction make it certain that potius, not magis, is the meaning (cf. Themes of justice and morality: "A Darkness More Than Night" explores the complex nature of justice and morality. Now this is the basis for judging: that the light has come into the world and people loved the darkness rather than the light, because their deeds were evil. This crisis, in the case of the believer, furnishes a clear and illustrious proof that the Son of God had primarily come to save, not to judge; while in the case of the unbeliever it was sufficiently manifested by the absence of faith in that which was so sublimely adapted to induce affectionate reverence and adoring trust. Terry McCaleb’s enforced quiet lifestyle on the island of Catalina is a far cry from the hectic excitement of his former role as an FBI profiler.

Harry Bosch is up to his neck in a case that has transfixed all of celebrity-mad Los Angeles: a movie director is charged with murdering an actress during sex, and then staging her death to make it look like a suicide. I started the book and then realized it has this new character Terry McCaleb in it, and he's in another novel Blood Work. This is an ingenious thriller which is also a powerful parable about justice and just how far it is possible to go in pursuit of it; Connelly is as intelligent about human motivation and the misunderstandings that destroy friendship as he is about forensics, art history and the mechanics of prosecution. It becomes a force that cannot be suppressed indefinitely, emerging to expose the lies, reveal the hidden motives, and bring to light the untold stories. And this is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. To make matters worse, Bosch has just received a note, eerily reminiscent of the ones the Dollmaker used to taunt him with, giving him a location where a body can be found. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men have loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. With watertight evidence stacked against him, Haller will need every trick in the book to prove he was framed.
