These days Pikes hotel is well and truly back on the international hedonists map – a map that is rumoured only to exist etched onto the inside of an especially skimpy undergarment of indeterminate gender that nobody is quite sure how to wear properly, but I digress. He bought and sold an island, owned a marina on the Cote d’Azur and had been pals with far eastern royalty. I questioned how much of his recounting of the ‘beautiful women and men’ he ‘bedded’ was actually true. His name dropping of the entertainment crowd he attracted with a large flair of misogynistic sexual encounters was repetitive and drearily drab. Despite being written in a somewhat clunky, basic way, and being peppered with crude references told in Tony’s own words, this book is endlessly intriguing.

I could not happen to think of Atlas Shugg a little bit when you think of Pike and the pride of his work he has in the hotel and the success which came from it. I loved the way this man enjoyed his life to the full despite pissing off a lot of people along the way and not caring to much about it. Just finished reading the autobiography on the legendary Mr Pike and I’ve gotta say it’s one of the most mind blowing life stories I’ve ever heard!Not sure what i was expecting after listening to this…no doubt that Tony Pike is a legend and has lived a very fruitful life that many would die for! The iconic hotelier reflects on a fast life of hedonism and the globe-trotting backstory that influenced his set-up of pioneering Balearic boho bolthole, Pikes. Great story's told by great man but definitely not for the faint-hearted (in a good way) and you definitely wont get board and it only gets better by the page :) anyway great book definitely one of my favorites now! Personally I’d have preferred to sacrifice hearing about some of Tony’s pre-Ibiza escapades to have more of the book given over to additional wild tales from Pikes.

Inspirational for those who want to live life differently, a bit shocking in parts for those who don't!A book was recently released discussing the life and times of one of Ibiza's most prolific figures, a worthy tale not often told. Point being that at the very least you likely know that Harvey spends his summers there, manning the DJ booth on Monday nights in August and September. I felt a sadness that long standing relationships were almost a disposable commodity for a promised land that didn't exist. Pikes, a hedonist at heart that went from a terrible upbringing to a dream life only a handful of people ever achieve. The constant references to birds, knockers, good sorts and shagging his mates girlfriends could be a little bit wearing for some, especially in the current climate as an attempt is quite rightly being made to clear out the casual and not so casual sexism that has plagued society since ever.

A few reviewers have questioned whether it is all true as it is so outrageous, I personally think it is too outrageous NOT to be true - to imagine all this up would be no mean feat! But in truth it turned out to be an honest to God account of a remarkable place and a remarkable life lived to its full extent .HE was the sex-mad playboy who provided a tropical retreat for A-list celebrities to indulge their wildest fantasies. I always had a decent sort with me, but that wasn’t an extra cost, I always counted the girls within the running costs. I’m always interested in stories like this and there are some truly brilliant anecdotes in here (and some shocking ones too). It is at this point in which he decides that the white island is where he wants to settle down and set about building his very own private paradise, much of it with his own hands and sweat.
