Mix in the ogbono seeds and if there are any lumps, use a serving spoon to break them down. Mix thoroughly with the palm oil till the ogbono seeds are completely coated. Cook all the meat you’re going to use with some salt, pepper, onions, and bouillon powder till it becomes tender. This, of course, will vary depending on what you want to add. At a minimum, beef or goat meat should be included (cooking time will be added to this recipe). Also, palm oil is an essential part of this meal you can also increase or reduce the quantity you use. It all depends on your personal preference. The ripe pulp can be used to prepare juice, jelly, jam, and wine. The wine produced from the pulp tastes great and is generally acceptable. Bamidele, et al. Physico-chemical properties of instant ogbono (Irvingia gabonensis) mix powder. Food science & nutrition vol. 3,4 (2015) The study found that the extracts act by reducing the secretion of stomach acids and increasing the mucus secretion to coat the lining of the stomach [ 9].Okolo, C. Unlike some other varieties like Irvingia wombulu that produces bitter fruits, the fruits of Irvingia gabonensis are fleshy and edible. The pulp is rich in vitamin C and yields about 70% juice. For this recipe, I used beef, shaki (tripe), and cow feet. The shaki was already cleaned, so that saved me some work. Bushmeat: How wild meat can be a threat to wildlife and human health". This was carried out as a double-blind randomised study using 40 subjects. 28 subjects received Irvingia gabonensis 1.05 g three times a day for one month while 12 subjects were on placebo and the same schedule. The obese patients given Irvingia gabonensis had a significant decrease in triglycerides, total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol with an increase in HDL-cholesterol. However, the placebo group showed no changes in blood lipid components. This suggests that Irvingia gabonensis seed is suitable for weight management. Pressed ogbono oil can be used for making cosmetics and soap. The bark can be used for treating scabby skin. The powdered kernels can be applied on the skin as a cosmetic to make the skin less oily. Scientists have revealed that the seeds of ogbono are made of water-soluble dietary fibers that act as bulk-forming laxatives and delay stomach emptying – leading to a more gradual absorption of dietary sugar, which helps to reduce a spike in blood sugar after meals [ 4]. These studies suggest the potential of ogbono seeds as a useful weight-loss tool. However, more in-depth studies in humans are required. InfectionIdeally, ugwu leaves are stirred in at the final stage of cooking this soup but you can use any other leafy greens but I will strongly suggest you go a strong leafy green alternative like Kale or Collard greens especially if the stew will last you more than a day. You can also add Okra in place of the leafy green if preferred. Dika fat, the fat extracted from the seeds, is a good source of myristic, lauric, palmitic, and oleic fatty acids [ 2]. Ayuk, E.
