Gyeon Q2 CanCoat, 200 ml

Unlike yourself and applying with the towel which is easy enough, I just get better coverage with a microfiber applicator. It does not take any longer than using it with a towel. I also get less streaking with the microfiber applicator than I do with the towel. For example Cancoat is the most expensive and labor intensive way to coat a car over a set time period of 3 to 5 yrs compared to other using your term, traditional coatings, which for most long lasting durability being one of the primary reasons to coat a car. Members and I of the detailing community cringe when we hear of any spray on product that has the name ‘ceramic’, ‘coat’, or ‘SI02 in it’. We have seen these (maintenance spray) products sold and detailing services with the application of these products offered with the blatantly misleading implication the consumer is getting comparable protection to a true ceramic coating.

Application

Shake the Gyeon CanCoat well, take a good quality microfibre cloth and spray the Can Coat into the cloth. Wipe over a section (half a panel) gently ensuring you pass over all the area at least twice to provide even coverage. Take a second good-quality microfibre cloth and wipe off completely. Repeat for all other sections on your car until gleaming. Although paint correction on a fully decontaminated surface is the main course in approving the aesthetics of your paint, I have noticed an amplification in the look of the paint after using CanCoat. Gyeon CanCoat has the ‘glass like gloss’ look a coating provides as seen below with this Audi RS5.

I recently wrote my review on the new Gyeon Pure Evo coating which can be found here https://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=429437 However, after a drive in the wet a couple of days later, the rear of the car was just as dirty as ever and although there was beading, a lot of those beads later dried to leave horrible, dirty, water spots. Leaving the car out in the rain a few days later and the beads were still there but again they later dried to dirty water spots. The original Q2 Cancoat was an absurdly easy way to protect paint and trim for up to 6 months (although we were able to get 9 months of protection in our testing). So for the next generation of absurdly easy to apply paint and trim protection, Gyeon Q2 Cancoat EVO offers double the lifespan of the original Cancoat: up to 12 months or 12 thousand kilometers of protection. Cancoat EVO's application process couldn't be easier: just apply it using the included microfiber towel, and wipe away the residue until your paint is looking its best for up to one full year.

Is it a Coating or a Sealant?

Nice write up Zach. CanCoat is a great product. Probably my favorite protection from the current Gyeon line. That includes Gyeon Syncro which has been underwhelming for me. But that is another story for another time. CanCoat is quite versatile and for me it exceeded the longevity and durability claims which Gyeon claims to be roughly 6-9 months. I’ve discovered that Can Coat is a bit of a unique product. In my opinion, it falls somewhere between the two categories. Can coat claims to provide many of the benefits of a true coating such as strong protection against chemicals, environmental contaminants, and UV rays, however it does not offer the same durability that most coatings can provide. Can Coat is like a more potent version of a spray sealant such as Gyeon Cure, but a less potent version of a coating like Gyeon Mohs. Can Coat may be applied on top of an existing coating or as a stand alone layer of protection.
