Verity (2017) The Hopeless series is quite short, constituting two books and a novella. The novels tend to attract very strong reactions. The majority of reader seem to enjoy them very enthusiastically and they would give life and limb to defend the quality of what they consider to be Hoover’s most impressive series. That weekend, Karen leaves to the flea market, leaving Sky home alone. To celebrate, she bakes (Karen is a health nut, so this is rebellion). Holder turns up, and they end up having dinner together and clearing up the air about their various misunderstandings. They spend the next day too together, and get to know each other. Sky tells Holder about her father, and Holder tells her about his twin sister, Lesslie (Les), who committed suicide the previous year. When asked about his tattoo, he only says that it’s a reminder of the people he loved and let down. There’s also an interesting conversation about their first kiss (among other firsts), and things seem to be going in the right direction. Morgan is determined to prevent her daughter from making the same mistakes she did. By getting pregnant and married way too young, Morgan put her own dreams on hold. Clara doesn’t want to follow in her mother’s footsteps. Her predictable mother doesn’t have a spontaneous bone in her body.

After finally caving to his unwavering pursuit, Sky soon finds that Holder isn’t at all who he’s been claiming to be. This Colleen Hoover series is a contemporary romance story that revolves around Sydney and Ridge, who find themselves entangled in a complex and forbidden love affair.Hoover’s decision to retell a story she’s already told was undoubtedly a risk, but it certainly was one worth taking. The character development in this story really shines as we meet Holder in a new light — his own light.

At home, Karen confesses everything to Sky, and says she’s her aunt, which is how she knew what Hope had been going through. She couldn’t stand to watch her brother spoil another life, and so she took her away. She offers to turn herself in, but Sky sees the real reason why she did it, andthanks her for saving her. This author includes masturbation, degrading language for genitalia and the marital act, and erotic and explicit sexual encounters. The female protagonist (through whose perspective the story is told) is very willing to be objectified and used in sexual encounters. The male character is in control. He is unfaithful to his wife and disposes of her. He is given consent sexually use the unmarried women hired and residing in his home. He impregnates her and makes a lovely new family. There is nothing positive about this book. A book that goes against all of the work females have done for women to be respected and not treated as a sexual play thing. Only a select few readers have anything negative to say about the Hopeless series. But their disregard for the novels is quite strong. So it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that there is no real middle ground with the Hopeless stories. I’m throwing whatever I can find in front of me at whatever else I can find in front of me. Every time I open my mouth to scream, I taste the salt from the tears that are streaming down my cheeks.
