Even without it there’s enough illumination here to challenge the top mid-range mobiles.This comparison might seem one-sided with the Xperia 1 V seemingly beating the 10 V in most key areas, but there’s a good reason for that: the Xperia 1 V costs over triple the amount of the Xperia 10 V – in the UK, at least. As soon as I got set up, it was immediately clear that I wouldn’t be getting a whole lot out of it. So long as you’re not into playing graphically intensive 3D games like Honkai Star Rail, you won’t notice things quite so starkly as I did. But that doesn’t make day-to-day operations silky smooth, either.

Sony deserves praise for once again giving us three proper cameras on the Xperia 10 V. What’s more, the third one isn’t a pointless depth or macro sensor making up the numbers. You get a wide camera, an ultrawide camera and a 2x telephoto camera. Haunting the whole camera experience, however, is that same sense of lag that I complained about with last year’s model. More portable budget AV brilliance from Sony The Xperia 10 V weighs in at a relatively svelte 159g, making it one of the lighter smartphones around, not just compared to Sony’s flagship. Though at the same 8.3mm width, it’s not quite as thin as you’d expect from a lightweight smartphone.
However, it's the internal specs that leave something to be desired, as the Xperia 10 V is using practically identical components to last year. The 10 V is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 695, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, as well as a 5000mAh battery. While the Xperia 10 IV certainly wasn't unusable by any means, it wasn't the smoothest-performing smartphone we've ever tested, so a newer processor would have been appreciated. The Sony Xperia 10 V has exactly the same key strengths and weaknesses as the Xperia 10 IV did last year. Factor in a nigh-on identical design, and it’s pretty much impossible to waver from our previous, rather middling verdict. Under the hood, both phones are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon processors, but there’s a notable difference in their capabilities. The Xperia 5 V takes the lead with its Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 4nm chipset, offering smooth multitasking and gaming performance. It’s also 5G-enabled, ensuring you stay future-proofed when it comes to network connectivity. In general use, Sony has elected to utilize a sneaky little side window you’ll vaguely see as a tiny transparent rectangle on the upper portion of the screen’s right side.

When it comes to included software and services, there isn’t a massive amount to talk about with the Xperia 10 V. Another Xiaomi phone definitely worth considering is the Poco X5 Pro. In many aspects, it is not too dissimilar to the Redmi Note 12 Pro, like the 6.67-inch, 10-bit Dolby Vision, HDR10+, 120Hz display, the IP53 ingress protection rating and the stereo speakers. There is also the identical 5,000 mAh battery with the same 67W fast charging. Once again, you will be missing out on a telephoto camera, though.

Let's start with some positives first. The Xperia 10 V finally has a stereo speaker setup and a pretty good one at that - front-facing, well-balanced and decently loud, with a clean output. Making a return - the great ingress protection rating is hard to come by in the midranger space. The same is true for a telephoto camera, let alone one that does a decently good job quality-wise, like we are seeing on the Xperia 10 V. We can't fail to mention the excellent battery life the Xperia 10 V manages from its 5,000 mAh battery and now with notably faster charging, even if still rather slow in the grand scheme of things. The brightness boost on the signature 21:9 HDR display is also great to see this year. The vanilla model gives up on some extras like HDR support on the display and stereo speakers. The overall user experience, however, is not that different.
