However, with rumours of the groom's terminal illness, neither of Olive's sisters agreed to the marriage. To start with what I liked: I appreciated the way that the other members of the household were real people, not just cardboard cutouts supporting Giles and Angelica. it's so close to actual regency prose that i found myself skimming because my brain just doesn't do regency prose.Even more, her own sister is determined to make her life a living Hell by trying to set her up and make her look ridiculous in front of their father. I think I've read some truly anger-inducing stories over time so this was such a minor blip that if no one else had pointed it out, I wouldn't have thought twice about it. I was hoping for some unexpected twist or exciting event (other than just Giles badly spraining his ankle! This was chunnering along quite pleasantly if a little insipid at times, then all of a sudden we have the assault by the husband on his naked wife, and later on he forces himself on her.

Giles, who has been level-headed up right up to this point, kisses Angelica roughly so as to hurt her (this is something Mack keeps putting in every book and I really hate it), making it hard to believe that he is in-love with her (seriously, how can you hurt someone like that if you supposedly love her? Although there were some things that didn't seem quite realistic, I still really enjoyed the book and liked that faith and scripture were included in the story. Angelica can't help but notice the upcoming marriage doesn't appear to be a love match, whilst herself she has adored Lord Desmond since she was a child when he rescued her from a lake. Overall, though I enjoyed the writing and most of the story, I will probably be avoiding other books by the author in case of more of such issues. Hearing her mother's words, all the feelings that Autumn had long bottled up inside her gushed out in the form of tears.She knew that since the moment she promised to be the substitute, her old life was behind her and her future was filled with uncertainties. There were several typos throughout the course of the copy of this book that I was reading from, but not so many that it was incredibly distacting and ruined the book for me. There are plenty of chapters that readers can find delightful and make them keep reading the wonderful story of Olivia White and Vincent Barton.
